Headlight Restoration

The plastic lenses fitted to modern motorhomes, RVs and light commercial cabs are extremely tough, but they're not immune to the New Zealand sun. Over five to ten years, UV gradually breaks down the factory clear coat on the outside of the lens, and the surface starts to turn cloudy, hazy or distinctly yellow. It happens so slowly that most owners don't notice the change day-to-day — but the effect on night driving is significant, with light output often reduced by 30–50% compared to a clear lens.

Our Headlight Restoration service brings the lenses back to a clear, glass-like finish and then seals them with a dedicated UV coating so the yellowing doesn't simply return in six months. We start by masking the surrounding paint and panels, then progressively wet-sand each lens to strip the oxidised outer layer, followed by a machine polish through cutting and finishing stages until the plastic is optically clear again. The final UV sealant is the step most DIY kits miss, and it's the reason our results hold up for 12–24 months rather than weeks.

It's a same-day service completed in our Mount Wellington workshop, and it pairs beautifully with a full Exterior Polish or an Express Detail so the whole front-end of the vehicle looks fresh at once. Motorhomes preparing for sale, WoF/CoF or a big trip are all classic reasons to book it — but the biggest win is simply how much safer and less tiring night driving becomes.
